Juvederm is minimally invasive and, thus, relatively painless. Some may have mild discomfort as the lips are more sensitive. In most patients, the application of numbing gel is all that is necessary for them to tolerate the injections.

How many appointments will I need?

Once a year is generally an adequate number of Juvederm sessions; certain patients may need treatment more or less often.

How Long Until I See Results?

Results will be immediate. The filler’s process varies slightly from person to person, but patients can expect results to settle fully after about two weeks. Your results can last up to one year. Some minor swelling at the injection site may occur but should also subside after two weeks.

What to Expect from a Dermal Fillers Treatment

Dermal fillers are relatively quick and easy. First, your skin will be cleansed, and then Dr. Hankins will use syringes to inject the appropriate amount of filler into the targeted areas. The entire process takes 15 to 30 minutes. In the vast majority of cases, one or two syringes will suffice. You can go home the same day!

Facial massage is not recommended for the first two weeks after injection. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm will continue to strengthen your skin several weeks after your Juvederm appointment.

Please note that Juvederm is not meant as a permanent filler and will slowly be absorbed by the body. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body, so this process is entirely safe.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

Recovery time varies from person to person, and their overall health depends on which dermal filler is injected. Most people can resume their daily activities almost immediately. Intense physical activity should be avoided in the first 24-48 hours of the procedure to minimize bruising and swelling. The skin will feel sore and achy, which is entirely normal. Softness usually settles in about 7-10 days.

Why Choose Dr. Hankins?

Christopher Hankins, MD, is a plastic surgeon specializing in facial, breast, and body aesthetic surgery. He also has advanced training in hand surgery, breast reconstruction after cancer, and other reconstructive surgical procedures. Dr. Hankins completed five plastic surgery fellowships with highly distinguished physician mentors in the United States and the United Kingdom, including a Plastic and Microsurgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine and a Hand Surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
