How Secret™ RF Improves Microneedling Treatments
Radiofrequency microneedling with Secret™ RF is different from traditional microneedling with a handheld pen. The conventional method relies on the operator’s hand motion and position to form a series of punctures in the skin tissues. However, this application doesn’t provide precise and repeatable results because it relies on a steady hand to penetrate the deeper skin tissues.
Secret™ RF uses a treatment head with 24 or 64 tines (needle points) that penetrate the skin and trigger your body’s natural wound-healing response. The machine regulates the penetration depth of the tines to 1/10 of a millimeter, a level of precision just not possible with a handheld microneedling pen.
Radiofrequency energy with Secret™ RF improves microneedling results. The tines of the device emit RF energy into the deep skin tissues as they puncture the skin, triggering inflammation and collagen remodeling. Scars and other skin imperfections are remarkably improved for most patients after Secret™ RF treatments.
What to Expect During Secret™ RF Treatments
Our medical staff and plastic surgeon at Premier Plastic Surgery have found Secret™ RF most effective for severe acne scarring, including icepick scars, which are often the most challenging type of scar to treat. Secret™ RF treatments take less than 30 minutes and begin with a topical anesthetic to the treatment area to minimize discomfort.
The Secret™ RF handpiece creates micro-injuries in the skin and delivers RF energy into the tiny wounds and surrounding tissues. Patients report feeling a warming sensation during treatments. A restorative ointment is applied afterward, and patients may return to work and other activities immediately. However, makeup should be avoided until the next day, and minor swelling and redness are expected for the first day after treatment.
Secret™ RF treatments are recommended in a series of three or four sessions performed one month apart. Results start to settle in about a month after the first treatment, but the best outcomes are seen three months after the final treatment.
